When the Body Finally Feels Safe

We often think of healing as something that happens when we’ve processed the past – when the story makes sense – when the pain has been talked through. But true healing doesn’t happen in the mind – it happens when the body finally feels safe enough to let go.

Trauma doesn’t end when the event ends – it ends when the body completes what it couldn’t finish back then.

Many of us carry incomplete stories – frozen emotions – and disconnected sensations. A traumatic event fragments our experience. What we felt – what we thought – and what our body sensed get separated – like three legs of a stool that no longer support each other.

This fragmentation creates confusion. You might know your story – but feel nothing. Or you might cry at songs and movies – but feel nothing when thinking of your own pain. This is not a flaw – it’s survival.

The body creates compartments. It hides what’s too much to feel. And only when safety returns – emotionally – physically – relationally – can these compartments open.

Integration is the moment when the parts reunite.
When the story – the emotion – and the physical sensation are allowed to meet again.
This is not always a beautiful process. It can feel like falling apart – like nothing makes sense anymore – like you’re shedding a skin and don’t yet know who’s underneath.
But this is the moment of truth – the body is not breaking down – it’s finally breaking through.

What integration actually looks like:

• Tears – shaking – trembling – the body releasing what it held.

• Exhaustion – finally no longer fighting the freeze.

• Sudden clarity – the fog lifting after years of suppression.

• New sensations – warmth – tingling – presence in areas once numb.

• Emotional confusion – “I don’t know who I am anymore” is a sign that trauma has stopped defining you.

Why integration doesn’t happen through thinking
You can’t think your way out of trauma. You can’t logic your nervous system into trust. Healing requires the felt sense of safety – through relationship – through touch – through breath.

This is where bodywork and de-armouring come in. By bringing attention to the energetic knots and contractions in the body – we give the system a chance to release old stories – without needing to re-live them.

The shift happens not when you understand what happened – but when your body no longer reacts as if it’s still happening.

Integration is the start
When the blockage dissolves – energy flows. Oxygen returns. The cells detox. The triggers disappear. Preferences change. Your posture shifts. You laugh more easily – cry more easily – and at some point, you realize – You’re no longer surviving – You’re living.

A note to you – if you’re walking this path:
If you’re on this journey – whether you’ve just begun or you’ve been unraveling for years – please remember: there’s no rush.

Your body knows the pace.
Your system remembers everything – even when your mind doesn’t.
And healing doesn’t come from force – it comes from allowing.

You don’t have to push – dig – or chase.
You don’t have to be “ready.”
You just have to be honest – with yourself – with your breath – with what arises.

Some days you’ll feel cracked open –
Some days you’ll feel nothing at all.

Both are sacred.

Trust the timing –
Trust your body –

And most of all –
you can trust that healing is not who you become – it’s the integration who you already are

Warmly
Johannes

Through the way we move. The way we hold tension. The way we breathe. I notice it every day - walking the streets of Berlin, sitting in the Metro or working with someone. Bodies carrying stories, some never told, some long forgotten. The slight hesitation before allowing themselves to fully relax. The breath caught in the chest. The belly,...

#ISSUE 03-2025 What If Pleasure Unlocks Your Aliveness? Dear Reader, Imagine pleasure isn’t just a feeling but a direct gateway to life force energy. Not something to be earned, not a distraction - a essence of vitality moving through you. Most of us have been taught to suppress it.
